4 Things You Didn’t Know About Inspirations for Star Wars

A Six-Hour Movie

Lucas’ initial script for Star Wars was more than 200 pages long. Put in perspective, the typical length of a screenplay is 95 to 125 pages long. Although 20th Century Fox wanted to make the film, Lucas’ draft would’ve made a movie that was five or six hours long. As a result the movie was trimmed to a normal length, with its two remaining acts expanded for the two sequels, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Lucas’ long-winded initial treatment inadvertently led to a movie era where successful franchises then sought to make trilogies.
