Understand the 3-1-1 Rule
The 3-1-1 rule refers to the TSA’s rules for how much liquid, gel, aerosol, cream or paste you make take in a carry-on bag. It must be just 3.4 ounces or less per container, placed in one quart-sized clear plastic zipped bag. The rule applies most often to toiletries, but other items also count, like food. The 3-1-1 rule also requires that you bring just one bag of liquids. So if you planned on taking four bags of 3.4 ounce liquids, that’s a no-go.
