The General Department of Criminal Investigations, in collaboration with Dubai Police, has launched a successful anti-begging campaign. During the first five days of the holy month, the campaign led to the arrest of 25 beggars, including 12 males and 13 females.
The campaign, launched under the slogan “Begging is a Wrong Concept of Compassion,” has significantly reduced the number of beggars annually.
Major General Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, emphasized that begging poses a serious threat to society’s security, properties, and the country’s image.
He urged the public not to respond to beggars’ pleas and to report any beggars immediately through the call center (901) or the “Police Eye” service on the Dubai Police smart app.
Colonel Ali Salem, Director of the Infiltration Control Department, also emphasized that begging is illegal and punishable under Federal Law No. 9 of 2018.
The campaign’s success highlights the effectiveness of strict and decisive measures in combating begging, and serves as a reminder to the public to seek financial assistance or meals from official entities, charities, and associations during the holy month, rather than engaging in illegal activities.
