Tesla is poised to establish its manufacturing plant in Gujarat, India, next year. Negotiations for the inaugural manufacturing unit of the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer in India are in the final stages and are expected to conclude soon, as per media reports. The official announcement regarding Tesla’s manufacturing unit in the state is anticipated during the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Summit scheduled for January 2024, according to reports from Ahmedabad Mirror.
Gujarat has long been recognized as a strategic business hub, hosting manufacturing facilities for major automakers like Maruti Suzuki. The potential sites for Tesla’s manufacturing plant include Sanand, Becharaji, and Dholera, as mentioned in the Ahmedabad Mirror report.
While there hasn’t been an official statement from either Tesla or the state government, Gujarat Health Minister and government spokesperson Rushikesh Patel have expressed optimism about Elon Musk’s investment in Gujarat. Minister Patel, during a recent Cabinet briefing, highlighted the alignment between Gujarat’s awareness and Tesla’s overarching goals, emphasizing ongoing negotiations between the government and the EV maker to finalize the deal for the manufacturing plant.

Reports suggest that Gujarat is an attractive choice for Tesla due to the state’s favorable policies and its proximity to ports, facilitating efficient product exports. The manufacturing plant, potentially located in Sanand, could enhance Tesla’s export capabilities, benefiting from the short distance to the Kandla-Mundra port in Gujarat.
