“Direct to consumer marketing will have exponential growth within the next few years. With more and more brands will be backed by investors as they continue to see how successful of a model direct to consumer is. We’re already seeing a few come into the space that have had multimillion dollar buyouts like Casper Mattresses.”
29-year-old Graham Byers has helped build $2 million of revenue this year alone for his e-commerce businesses… from his home in Puerto Rico with just a laptop and an internet connection.
He proves that if you want something badly enough, and if you’re willing to put in work and use your skills, you can do just about anything.
Why?
Because if you know how to market something, your opportunities are literally limitless.
Byers is an expert at direct response marketing, a type of marketing that uses content to evoke an instant reaction from a potential customer, such as a conversation or call to action.
According to SmartyAds,
“Direct response marketing is a type of sales technique designed to evoke an on-the-spot response and encourage a prospective customer to take action by opting in the advertiser’s offer. Unlike other marketing types, the direct response requires little or no time waiting to see measurable results. Advertisers are able to access performance from the moment the campaign is launched. Direct response marketing facilitates the delivery of a “call to action” via direct or online interaction.” (Source)
After wanting to make sure his family survived the economic crisis of 2008, Byers was able to grow and sell an internet company at age 22. Since then he hasn’t slowed down, diversifying his skills with e-commerce, focused on health products.
And, he also kickboxes professionally. More on that later.
Graham has taken an unorthodox and rare path to success, and he encourages entrepreneurs who are trying to follow in his footsteps to not do what they’re passionate about.
Wait, what?
Graham says, “Don’t follow your passion, follow what you’re good at until it becomes your passion.”
This is simple advice, and it’s brilliant: if you want to make an impact, don’t ask people to come to something you’re passionate about but not necessarily good at. Instead, focus on areas of skill where you can genuinely impact others, and you’ll eventually develop a passion around it.
Marketing and direct-to-consumer expertise didn’t start as an easy path for Graham, but he found he had skill in the area, and he’s been persistent. Today, he and his business partner have amassed over $5,000,000 sales as a small team.
And, on the side, Byers has been preparing for professional kickboxing.
And, he’s actually skilled at it, not just passionate about it!
