Game of Thrones prequel Tales of the Dunk and Egg in development

The pay TV broadcaster Home Box Office (HBO) has sent “Tales of Dunk and Egg” , a pre-story to the events of “Game of Thrones”, to an early stage of development. The hour-long drama would be based on the fantasy novels by George RR Martin. The focus is on Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon V. Targaryen (Egg), who lived around 90 years before “A Song of Ice and Fire”.

Martin has so far published three novels in the “Tales of Dunk and Egg” series. “The Hedge Knight” was released in 1998, five years later “The Sworn Sword” was released and in 2010 “The Mystery Knight” followed. The three works were summarized six years ago in the volume “A Night of the Seven Kingdoms”.

So far, no author or actor has been involved with the project. However, the project is a very high priority for HBO. Should the project go into series production, it would be the second Game of Thrones prequel to make it onto television. HBO has already ordered “House of the Dragon”, which is due to start next year.
