Jennifer Lawrence, the renowned actress, recently shared an intriguing revelation during her appearance on The Rewatchables podcast. The 32-year-old star disclosed that she once auditioned for the role of Bella Swan in the popular film franchise, Twilight. However, her attempt to secure the leading role was met with swift rejection, leaving her without even a callback.
Recalling the experience, Lawrence candidly stated, “I auditioned for Twilight. They turned me down immediately. I didn’t even get a callback.” Reflecting on the outcome, she mused about how her life would have taken a drastically different path had she landed the coveted role, eventually portrayed by Kristen Stewart.
Notably, Lawrence’s life did undergo a significant transformation approximately a year later when she triumphantly secured the role of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games series. Interestingly, she admitted to grappling with the decision to accept the part, partly due to the overwhelming success and fervent fanbase surrounding the Twilight saga.
Lawrence elaborated, revealing, “I almost didn’t do Hunger Games because Twilight had come out, and that fandom had happened. When I was trying to discuss this decision with others after receiving the offer, I found it challenging to convey my hesitation. It was so difficult to make people understand the immense level of fame associated with such a role.”
Surprisingly, achieving that level of fame was never something Lawrence had envisioned for herself. While she had aspired to work on independent films and pursue impactful projects, becoming the most famous person on the planet was never part of her aspirations. She shared that this contrasting life trajectory from her initial vision would have left her feeling “miserable” had she ended up starring in Twilight.
Since her breakthrough in The Hunger Games, Jennifer Lawrence has gone on to enjoy a highly successful career, even securing an Oscar. Currently, she is captivating audiences with her portrayal of Maddie in the new comedy No Hard Feelings.
In the film, Lawrence’s character is a financially struggling woman who responds to a Craigslist ad to date a wealthy couple’s introverted and socially awkward son, played by Andrew Barth Feldman, before he departs for college.
Jennifer Lawrence fondly recollected a pivotal moment during the casting process for the film No Hard Feelings, specifically when her co-star Andrew Barth Feldman auditioned for the role of Percy.
Sharing the anecdote, Lawrence reminisced, “When Andrew left his audition, the door closed, and we all exchanged glances, knowing deep down that he was the perfect fit for Percy.”
However, there was a small complication that emerged. The character of Percy was meant to attend Harvard, and it seemed like a potential obstacle.
Undeterred by this challenge, Lawrence took matters into her own hands and reached out to Feldman directly. She delivered the news to him, saying, “Andrew, I have some unfortunate news. It looks like you won’t be able to complete your semester at Harvard.”
Despite the unexpected turn of events, Feldman agreed to defer his education, demonstrating his commitment to the project. The rest, as they say, is history.
Now, No Hard Feelings, the film in which Lawrence and Feldman share the screen, can be enjoyed by audiences in theaters. The chemistry between the two actors, coupled with Feldman’s exceptional portrayal of Percy, has undoubtedly contributed to the movie’s success.
