5 things gamers want to see in Mortal Kombat 12 in 2023

While NetherRealm Studios has yet to announce Mortal Kombat 12 officially, fans are sure an announcement is imminent. Of course, such anticipation breeds speculation, and many fans know exactly what they want in the next killer entry.Mortal Kombat’s recent success would result in the twelfth installment; players theorized several ways to make MK12 the best it could be.

The Mortal Kombat franchise has been slaying its heroes in style for 30 years and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. While the franchise has had its fair share of ups and downs over the decades, 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11 proved to be a resounding success and has fans excited for the 12th installment in the fighting game series.

While NetherRealm Studios has yet to announce Mortal Kombat XII officially, fans are sure that an announcement is imminent. Of course, such anticipation breeds speculation, and many fans know exactly what they want in the next killer entry.

5. Even Wilder Fatalities Are A Must

Since the franchise’s first title, Mortal Kombat has been known for its unique lethality. This concept allows the winner to perform a deadly finishing move that ends the opponent’s life in a bloody way.

Over the years, each entry has had to produce crazier and uglier ways for players to eliminate each other. MK11 exceeded expectations and contained the wildest ideas, leaving fans craving something more extreme for the next chapter.

4. New And Returning Guest Characters Would Be A Blast

One of the highlights of NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat and Injustice series is the inclusion of guest fighters from other franchises. This allowed the likes of Spawn, Jason Voorhees, Predator and others to face off against Scorpion and the rest of the MK gang.

The 12th entry could feature a new and highly sought-after fighter like Ash from the Evil Dead franchise. Thanks to the MK11’s gear system, many fans are hoping to see some customizable returning guests.

3. The Boys’ Homelander Is A Perfect Fit For The MK Formula

Amazon Prime’s hit series The Boys features one of recent years’ most memorable and terrifying villains: the self-obsessed “hero” Homelander. Homelander is basically a version of Superman who only cares about himself and has no problem killing whoever he wants, making him the perfect fighter for Mortal Kombat.

The government-sponsored assassin will bring unique powers to the MK squad, allowing fans to take control of a Superman-like character without morals or limitations. When this version of Homelander is voiced by Anthony Starr, the actor who plays him on television, it’s definitely a winning formula.

2. More Variety For Unlockable Gear Would Be A Huge Win

Injustice 2 2017 features an impressive gear system that lets players unlock a variety of new cosmetics and moves for the entire roster, allowing them to create their own versions of iconic characters. MK11 introduces a revised version of this system that features an odd combination of improvements but takes a step back in their implementation.

MK11 allows players to choose from a number of different overall skins, in addition to customizing 3 specific cosmetics. While this is a perfect system, seeing something more profound for the follow-up would be great, especially considering that Injustice 2 already showed something deeper.

1. It’s Time To Push The Story Forward

Since the series’ reboot in 2011, simply titled Mortal Kombat, the episodes have managed to tell an engaging story and actively develop their core characters by introducing new favourites. Of course, in a series of slain enemies, some of the main characters meet their final defeat.

With no reboots or alternate timelines, the new entry is the fourth in the current continuity. Fans need to see a sequel to this fearless saga. To make MK12 a success, NetherRealm had to contain new surprises to captivate its audience.
