Joe Biden Breaks White House Plans, Visits Ukraine to Signal US Support for the Country

US President Joe Biden on Monday, February 20, arrived in Kiev on an unannounced visit. The media spread footage of his visit to the square near St. Michael’s Cathedral, where his American counterpart was accompanied by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Then they visited the memorial to the fallen servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the published videos, an air raid siren can be heard in the background. Zelensky called Biden’s visit an important signal of support for all Ukrainians and published a photo of a handshake with the US president, who wore a tie in the colors of the Ukrainian flag.

This is Biden’s first visit to Ukraine since he was elected president of the United States. Interestingly, earlier the White House announced his trip to Poland, but “completely excluded the possibility” of visiting the territory of Ukraine.
