The 81-year-old is the longest-serving Senate GOP leader, known for helping the party achieve top Republican priorities, including filling the Supreme Court with conservative judges, passing Trump-era tax cuts, and frequent frustration with Democratic legislative agendas.
His hospitalization came as the Senate was divided, and Democrats controlled the chamber by a margin of 51-49.
Democratic Senators John Fetterman of Pennsylvania and Dianne Feinstein of California have also been hospitalized recently, with Fetterman seeking treatment for depression and Feinstein for shingles.
Feinstein tweeted Tuesday that he was recovering at home.
