GOP Rep Calls for Biden’s Impeachment and Trump Impeachment Expungement

In recent weeks, there has been a growing movement among some House Republicans to push for the impeachment of President Joe Biden. This movement was sparked by releasing an FBI document that made bribery allegations against Biden during his time as vice president—Republican Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Matt Rosendale of Montana, Greg Steube of Florida, Ralph Norman of South Carolina, and Jim Banks of Indiana have all supported impeachment on various grounds.

Rep. Banks, who is running for a Senate seat in 2024, believes that there is sufficient evidence to impeach Biden on charges of corruption and abuse of power, particularly regarding the financial dealings of the Biden family. He argues that the Bidens are among the most corrupt families to have lived in the White House and claims that Biden made millions of dollars from Hunter Biden’s questionable business activities.

While the impeachment process requires charges to be leveled against Biden and passed in the House, the narrow Republican majority makes it difficult to achieve. Furthermore, a trial in the Senate would need a two-thirds majority for conviction, which seems unlikely given the Democratic majority in the House.

Despite the slim chances of successful impeachment, Rep. Banks and other Republicans view the effort as important to expose what they perceive as corruption within the Biden administration. They hope to force the Senate to take up impeachment hearings to reveal what they consider to be Democratic hypocrisy and to challenge those who previously supported the impeachment of former President Donald Trump.

The impeachment efforts against President Biden remain unlikely to result in a conviction, given the current political dynamics.
