Political ads are back on Facebook

The management of the social network Facebook allowed to show political ads on its site. The screening ban was introduced after the November US elections.

“On Thursday, March 4, we are reinstating the display of ads related to politics, elections, and public issues in the United States. We introduced a temporary ban after the elections in November 2020 to avoid confusion and abuse after election day, ” RIA Novosti quoted a Facebook post .

The company said that during the electoral cycle, Facebook employees were able to learn more about advertising related to elections and politics in general. They promised to carefully study how such advertising works in Facebook services and, if necessary, change how it works.

  • On November 3, a presidential election was held in the United States. The head of the country at that time Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden fought for this post. The ban on political advertising began after the closure of polling stations.
  • In mid-December, Facebook announced that it would temporarily lift the Georgia ban. This was explained by the fact that the state was to pass the second round of elections to the Senate. Then the candidates turned to Facebook with a request to allow them to place ads on the social network, and Facebook itself recognized messages on its site as an important source of information for citizens.
