Edwards vs. Muhammad is an upcoming mma tournament organized by the Ultimate Fighting Championship and will take place on March 13, 2021 at the UFC APEX Sports Complex in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Belal Muhammad (# 13 ranked) vs. Leon Edwards (# 3 ranked) has been announced as the main event of UFC Fight Night 187.
Initially, a fight between Briton Leon Edwards and Khamzat Chimaev (# 15 in the ranking) was planned as the title fight.
In February, UFC President Dana White announced that the fight between Edwards and Chimaev was canceled as Chimaev continued to have lung problems.
It was also announced that the fight would no longer be rescheduled, and a new rival was appointed for Edwards. Muhammad, 32, made his last appearance at UFC 258 last Saturday and defeated Diego Lima by unanimous decision.
This victory increased Muhammad’s winning streak to four, which also included victories over Curtis Millender, Takashi Sato and Lyman Goode.
The ranked 3rd welterweight champion Edwards (18-3 MMA, 10-2 UFC) has not fought since July 2019, when he defeated former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos by unanimous decision. The victory extended his winning streak to eight wins.
