McDonald’s temporarily closes US offices, prepares for layoffs: report

The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that Burger chain McDonald’s Corp temporarily closed its US offices this week as it prepares to announce layoffs to the company’s employees as part of a broader corporate restructuring.

In an internal email last week to US and some international employees, McDonald’s asked them to work from home Monday through Wednesday to offer a virtual staffing solution, the report said. It is unclear how many employees will be laid off.

“During the week of April 3, we will be announcing important decisions regarding roles and headcount across the organization,” the Chicago-based company said in an announcement reviewed by the Journal.

The report added that McDonald’s is also asking employees to cancel all face-to-face meetings with salespeople and other outsiders at its headquarters.
