Phillip Schofield’s Brother Receives Prison Sentence for Child Abuse

Phillip Schofield’s Brother Sentenced to 12 Years in Jail for Child Abuse

Timothy Schofield, the brother of TV presenter Phillip Schofield, has been handed a prison sentence of 12 years for sexually abusing a young boy. In April, Timothy Schofield was found guilty of committing 11 sexual offenses against a child between 2016 and 2019.

Following the conviction, the 54-year-old was dismissed from his position as a civilian worker for Avon and Somerset Police. In response to the verdict, Phillip Schofield expressed that he no longer considers Timothy to be his brother.

During Timothy Schofield’s sentencing hearing at Bristol Crown Court on Friday, the victim delivered a statement describing how he felt trapped in a cycle of fear and anxiety as a result of the abuse.

Presiding over the case, Mrs. Justice Cutts stated that Timothy Schofield exploited the innocence of his victim for his own sexual gratification, emphasizing that his actions were entirely reprehensible. She noted the victim’s feeling of being coerced and unable to escape, as well as the significant impact on his ability to enjoy a carefree and normal teenage life. The judge also highlighted Timothy Schofield’s lack of remorse and expressed her disappointment in his self-pitying demeanor.

The specific charges against Timothy Schofield included three counts of causing a child to witness sexual activity, three counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, three counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity, and two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child.

The victim came forward after confiding in a school counselor about the abuse. He described feeling emotionally blackmailed by Timothy Schofield. In his statement, the victim expressed relief only after Timothy’s arrest, finally feeling safe and free from the fear and anxiety that plagued him.

Timothy Schofield, residing in Bath, Somerset, attempted to argue during the trial at Exeter Crown Court that he had watched pornography with the boy, claiming that the boy was over the age of 16 at the time. He admitted to engaging in sexual acts while sitting apart but denied performing any acts directly on the teenager.

In September 2021, Timothy Schofield informed his famous brother about the sexual acts involving the victim. Phillip Schofield’s statement, read during the trial, revealed that he had invited Timothy to visit him in London after receiving a distressed phone call. The brothers had a meal together during which Timothy confessed to the incidents related to pornography.

Phillip Schofield confronted Timothy, insisting that the behavior must never recur. Disturbed by the conversation, Phillip Schofield stopped his brother from providing further details and made it clear that he did not want to know more.

The verdict and subsequent sentencing mark the conclusion of a distressing case involving Phillip Schofield’s brother and the abhorrent abuse inflicted upon a young boy.
