Social immobilization in six more regions to prevent contagion

Timely prevention. The president of the Council of Ministers, Violeta Bermudez, urged the population not to let their guard down against the new coronavirus, as the Executive has arranged with the extension of social immobilization to six more regions to avoid any possibility of covid-19 contagion.

At a press conference with the Minister of Health, Pilar Mazzetti, and the production holder, José Luis Chicoma, he stated that the only way to protect against the pandemic is with the use of the mask, the maintenance of social distance, the washing of hands and the evasion of crowds.

“We have not celebrated Christmas in a traditional way; we can also spend a New Year in a non-traditional way, especially by taking care of ourselves. We can’t let our guard down today more than ever, beyond the strains, the only way to protect ourselves is with the use of masks, with clean hands and keeping the physical distance,” he stressed.

The head of the Ministerial Cabinet asked the population not to crowd on the beaches, make an exception at New Year’s celebrations and to maintain prevention measures.

Proposals for unity

Violeta Bermúdez also argued that in these difficult times, it is necessary to seek proposals for unity, because otherwise you can lose all the way along in this fight against the pandemic.

“This is teamwork, and people must make a commitment to health, to ours and to that of others; that is the message we want to give you,” Francisco Sagasti said at a height of the Council of Ministers meeting.

In this regard, the holder of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), Pilar Mazzetti, commented that “we are all tired” of the pandemic, and although we want to go to a party or meet with our family for new Year’s, she considered that it is time to extreme the measures not to contract the new coronavirus.

He warned, for example, that in the streets, many people are seen with misunderstood masks, probably because of tiredness; however, he recalled that if we use them well, we take care not only of ourselves and our families, but also of the whole society.

The Minister further noted that the new variant of covid-19 found in the United Kingdom has not been found in Peru so far and stressed that this mutation does not mean further mortality, but that the possibility of contagion is higher.

As regards the new provisions adopted in the Council of Ministers, there is an extension of social immobilization from 22:00 to 4:00 hours in six more regions.

Thus, to the regions that previously had this schedule, such as Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad and the province of the Holy, in Ancash, now join Ica, Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna, Junín and Huánuco.

In addition, the beaches will remain closed in coastal regions as covid-19 cases increase.

In the case of Lima Metropolitana, Lima Provincias and the Callao region, compulsory social immobilization applies until January 4 from 23:00 to 4:00 hours.

Similarly, the capacity in galleries, shopping center and shops by department of the regions of Huánuco, Ica, Junín, Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Piura, Tumbes and Ancash (Santa Province) will be 40% to avoid any risk of spreading the viral strain.

Dedication and commitment

In the context of the covid–19 pandemic, the work of health personnel and medical professionals in general has been highlighted by their dedication, commitment, and responsibility to care for people who fell ill from the new coronavirus, highlighted minsa holder Pilar Mazzetti. In a pronouncement, the minister lamented the deaths of 256 doctors by the viral strain and that, to date, 62 are hospitalized and many of them with mechanical ventilation. He said, however, that during the pandemic, there were specific cases concerning medical personnel who failed to meet the required productivity in the hours of work arranged.
