The downside support levels are expected to materialize around 16,800, with subsequent support levels situated around 16,600-16,225 if breached. Meta Launches Verified Subscription Bundle for FB & Instagram Users in the US

0

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has announced a new subscription bundle called Meta Verified that includes account verification, added protection against impersonation, increased visibility, and support for users in the US. The company plans to gradually roll out the paid option to more users over the next few weeks. Meta Verified was first tested in Australia and New Zealand in February and is now available in the US starting at $11.99 per month on the web and $14.99 per month on mobile.

To obtain the coveted blue checkmark, users must provide a government ID that matches their profile name and picture and must be at least 18 years old. This move is aimed at increasing authenticity and security across Meta’s services, according to Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement on an Instagram broadcast channel in February.

Meta joins other platforms such as Discord, Reddit, and YouTube in offering a subscription-based model. Twitter also launched its own verification subscription service, Twitter Blue, in December. The move by Meta offers an additional revenue stream beyond advertising, as its core ad sales business faces pressure from various factors including privacy changes and budget constraints.

By providing users with added protection against impersonation accounts and direct access to customer support, Meta Verified aims to increase authenticity and security for Facebook and Instagram users in the US.

Elon Musk Donated to $8.26 billion OpenAI Before It Became Profitable, Claims CEO

0

OpenAI was a relatively obscure organization until the launch of ChatGPT, a revolutionary AI chatbot, a few months ago. However, what may be unknown to many is that Elon Musk was among the founders of OpenAI when it was a non-profit organization.

Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has transformed the landscape of AI chatbots. Musk’s tweet regarding his $100 million donation to OpenAI during its early days has drawn significant attention.

Musk expressed bewilderment about the non-profit organization’s transformation into a for-profit company with a market capitalization of $30 billion.

He questioned the legality of such a shift and wondered why everyone does not pursue it if it is legitimate. The tweet has raised essential ethical issues regarding for-profit AI companies.

Musk wrote,”Iโ€™m still confused as to how a non-profit to which I donated ~USD 100M somehow became a USD 30B market cap for-profit. If this is legal, why doesnโ€™t everyone do it?”

ChatGPT was requested by Alex Kehr, CEO of Superlocal, to generate a response to a question posed by Elon Musk. Kehr was impressed with the response generated by ChatGPT, which he described as a “good summary of what went down.”

OpenAI, the organization behind ChatGPT, has two distinct entities: a non-profit subsidiary that controls research direction, and a for-profit arm that is focused on developing and commercializing AI technologies.

Recently, OpenAI announced the release of GPT-4, the successor to ChatGPT, which the company claims is more sophisticated and versatile than its predecessor.

GPT-4 has already passed several human-oriented exams, including the GRE, LSAT, and SATs, according to the company’s blog post.

Elon Musk responded to this news by highlighting the need for technological advancements like Neuralink to keep up with AI’s progress and ensure humans remain relevant in various fields.

In the past, Elon Musk has been a vocal critic of both ChatGPT and its parent company, OpenAI. He has previously referred to ChatGPT as being ‘too woke’ and has raised concerns that AI’s social awareness could have serious consequences.

Musk has also accused ChatGPT of being biased towards conservatives. In addition, he has accused Microsoft of turning OpenAI into a profit-oriented entity, despite its non-profit status.

Nothing Phone (1) vs Google Pixel 6a: CEO Carl Pei shares advantages

0

Nothing, the tech company founded by Carl Pei, is currently working on its second smartphone, Nothing Phone (2), but its first phone, Nothing Phone (1), is still making headlines. Recently, on Twitter, a user named Yidi Reiss asked Pei how Nothing Phone (1) is superior to the Google Pixel 6a, which is also a popular mid-range phone available in India for under โ‚น30,000.

Pei responded by highlighting that Pixel 6a is Google’s entry-level smartphone, while Phone (1) is Nothing’s flagship model. He also mentioned that the bill of material cost to build Phone (1) is considerably higher than that of 6a.

In the same tweet, Pei also listed some of Phone (1)’s advantages, such as symmetrical bezels around the screen, which give it a more attractive design than Pixel 6a’s large chin, and Gorilla Glass 5, which makes the phone’s back side feel more premium compared to 6a’s plastic back.

Replying to him, Nothing CEO Carl Pei said โ€œI find it odd that Nothing Phone (1) gets compared to the Pixel 6a. It’s a good device, but has a completely different positioning and value proposition.”

โ€œOther than the glyph interface, how would you say it is better than the pixel 6a? Just curious since from what I understand that are priced similarly,” asked Reiss.

– Symmetrical bezels around the screen vs. a large chin on the 6a. This is very satisfying for those who demand good design.

– Gorilla Glass 5 vs. plastic back side, again feels way more premium.

– Better processor for faster performance.

– Way better camera hardware, although we have some catching up to do with them on software.

– 120Hz vs. 60Hz display refresh rate for a noticeable difference in smoothness when scrolling.

– Noticeably bigger screen, 6.55″ vs. 6.1″, for better media consumption.

– I prefer Nothing OS to Pure Android from an aesthetics and optimization/polish/finesse perspective, although both are nice.

– Faster wired charging and support for wireless charging which doesn’t exist on the 6a.

US pledges $171m in aid for Venezuelans impacted by crisis

0

The economic and political crisis in Venezuela has forced seven million people to leave the country, most of whom are now dispersed throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

In response to the crisis, the United States has pledged more than $171 million in humanitarian aid and development funding.

US Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, stated at the donor conference in Brussels that the funds would be used to provide food, healthcare, emergency shelter, legal and protection services to those impacted by the crisis.

Of the total amount, $84 million will be directly allocated to aid those who remain in Venezuela, while $31 million will be used to facilitate the economic integration of Venezuelan refugees who have fled to Colombia and Ecuador.

The remaining $56 million will support various humanitarian programs for both refugees and their host communities, such as emergency shelter, healthcare access, and the protection of vulnerable groups.

This new funding follows a September 2020 announcement that the US would provide nearly $376 million in humanitarian aid to Venezuelans. The US supports Venezuela’s opposition, recognizes its parallel legislature, and opposes what it considers socialist President Nicolas Maduro’s dictatorship.

During the previous administration of former President Donald Trump, the US imposed strict sanctions against the country, freezing and seizing Venezuelan government funds at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to support opposition lawmakers who oppose Maduro.

The Venezuelan opposition has complained that the US clearance process needed to replace its previous point person for fund distribution, former interim President Juan Guaido, is stretching on. They say the funds will help humanitarian efforts.

Maduroโ€™s government opposes what it says is US foreign interference in its politics and has said the opposition stole funds that could be used for social and medical support.

Top 7 ChatGPT industry use cases that can benefit in 2023

Something About Chat GPT

Chat GPT is an advanced chatbot that utilizes the latest artificial intelligence technology. It is capable of generating natural and human-like responses to various questions and prompts. As mentioned, Chat GPT has already shown remarkable writing abilities, having written quality essays and sitcom scripts. The chatbot’s exceptional performance has raised questions about the possibility of AI chatbots replacing human writers in the future.

Large-Scale Pretraining: “Pretraining” refers to the chatbot having a pre-existing database of text or words, enabling it to better comprehend the patterns and organization of natural language. This, in turn, allows for more conversational responses as the AI tool takes into account the query’s context and adapts accordingly.

Transformer Architecture: The structure of the transformer comprises of layers that prioritize words and phrases within user inputs to efficiently process lengthy data sequences. Subsequently, the model endeavors to gain a deeper comprehension of the context and significance of the information, resulting in more coherent responses for users.

Furthermore, the inclusion of feed-forward layers and residual connections in the architecture allows the tool to grasp intricate language patterns, leading to a better capture of diverse words and phrases.

Enhanced Product Descriptions: E-commerce companies are using ChatGPT to enhance product descriptions for their website. As e-commerce is a competitive industry, consumers have seemingly endless choices. Companies are using ChatGPT to write catchy product descriptions to attract customers as companies know that product descriptions are an integral part of their website and can be the reason why their sales sink or soar.

Nurture Leads Successfully: Chatbots have long been considered the best method for developing leads and moving them along a companyโ€™s sales pipeline. This is possible with ChatGPT. In order to swiftly and effectively turn leads into customers, marketers can make use of its special characteristics, such as its ability to remember past user comments and provide follow-up fixes.

TweetGPT: In todayโ€™s fast-paced digital world, Twitter has become an essential and powerful platform for businesses and entrepreneurs to connect with their audiences and promote their brand. However, with so much content being shared every day, it can be challenging to make your tweets stand out. Thatโ€™s where TweetGPT comes in!

TweetGPT is a variation of OpenAIโ€™s ChatGPT language generation model that has been fine-tuned to generate text specifically for Twitter. It allows users to input a prompt or context and generates text based on that input. The tool can be used for a variety of tasks such as creating tweets that mimics human writing, generating tweet threads, and much more.

Marketers and entrepreneurs can leverage the power of TweetGPT to improve their Twitter presence and reach a wider audience.

One of the key benefits of TweetGPT is its ability to generate high-quality, unique, and engaging tweets that can help to increase engagement and reach on Twitter.

TweetGPT can also be used to generate tweets that are tailored to a specific audience or purpose, making them more engaging and relevant. This can help to increase engagement and reach on Twitter, as well as improve the effectiveness of your tweets.

Reinforcement Learning via Human Feedback (RLHF): Since its creation, the chatbot has constantly been developing and training itself using Reinforcement Learning via Human Feedback (RLHF). Open AI has hired human AI trainers who interact with the model by assuming the roles of both user and a chatbot. Thereafter, trainers compare the tone and accuracy of answers given by ChatGPT to human replies and rank the quality of responses to reinforce human-like conversation approaches.

US Governor Signs Bill Banning Abortion Pills and Restricting Abortion

0

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon has signed a bill banning abortion pills in the state and allowed a separate measure restricting abortion to become law without his signature. The issue of access to abortion pills has taken center stage this week in a Texas court where a federal judge raised questions about a Christian group’s efforts to overturn the US’s approval of a leading abortion drug, mifepristone.

Medication abortions were already the preferred method for terminating pregnancies in the US even before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade. A two-pill combination of mifepristone and another drug is the most common form of abortion in the US. Currently, the pills are already banned in 13 states with blanket bans on all forms of abortion, and 15 states have limited access to abortion pills.

Wyoming’s ban on abortion pills will take effect in July, but legal challenges may delay it. On the other hand, the implementation date of the sweeping legislation banning all abortions that Gordon allowed to become law is not specified in the bill.

In a statement, Governor Gordon expressed concern that the latter law, called the Life is a Human Right Act, could result in a lawsuit that would delay the resolution to the constitutionality of the abortion ban in Wyoming. He believes that this issue should be resolved as soon as possible through a vote of the people.

This decision has significant implications and raises questions about the future of abortion access in the state. Stay informed about the issue and its developments.

Has Zuckerberg taken a pay cut? A former meta worker who lost his job while on maternity leave

0

Many employees fired from Meta are now turning to LinkedIn to share their stories. Facebook’s parent company laid off 11,000 employees last year and will cut another 10,000 jobs in a second round of layoffs. One of these employees announced that she was released on maternity leave after spending three days at the company.

Sarah Schneider, who was part of the talent acquisition and recruitment team, said she spent three great years at Meta that came with so many memories, including working with the best team and great people.

โ€œUnfortunately, due to Meta’s brutal layoffs, my maternity leave at Meta was cut short. I spent 3 amazing years at a company that has so many memories and worked with the best team and great people. These layoffs were not based on merit because so many high-performing employees were laid off. I am honored to have spent time on the recruiting and software development team,” he wrote on LinkedIn.

On Meta, Schneider moved three times, found the love of his life, got married, and had his first baby. โ€œDuring my time at Meta, I passed so many important milestones in life! I’ve moved three times, found the love of my life, moved in together, got engaged, married, got pregnant, and had our first baby!
He went on to describe the suffering he experienced during the birth process.

โ€œDuring labor, I had a near-fatal postpartum hemorrhage 8 hours postpartum. I lost over 5 liters of blood in my 50s with massive blood clots and blood pressure,” said the former Meta employee.

“Even though it was so traumatic, I knew I was alive for a reason. It gave me the perspective that I had a purpose and that the hills and valleys of life were temporary. I vowed that if I came out alive, I wouldn’t break a sweat too much, and I was grateful for everything around me. But now I don’t only have to think about myself, but also about my son Lucas. I’m going to do this for him so that he has a better life than me,” she added.

Another Meta employee, Andi Allen, who was laid off while on maternity leave, asked, “Did Mark Zuckerberg take a pay cut?” He worked as a senior technical recruiter.

Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, is preparing for more layoffs as it prioritizes projects and investments. CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasized the need for efficiency, calling 2023 the “Year of Efficiency” during a recent conference call.

The company had started a “flattening” process in which some middle managers were eliminated and others placed in separate employee roles rather than overseeing other employees.

The pandemic led to a significant increase in demand for Meta digital services, resulting in a 30% increase in headcount in 2020 and a further increase of 23% in 2021. However, the company experienced a decline in advertising revenue, which led to its first full-year sales decline in 2022
