Teofimo Lopez vs George Kambosos Jr. FIght Preview

The stage is set for Kambosos (19-0-0, 10 KO) to make his first challenge for a major world title, and he has the opportunity to be the unified champion. From his perspective, there’s nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Fighting out of Australia, Kambosos has taken down every boxer he’s faced. His record has survived split-decision results in his last two fights, a slight blemish by the judges on his resume of dominance. Internationally, he’s held the WBA Oceania Lightweight title before and successfully defended it. Still, this is the biggest opportunity of his career at 28 years old. He’ll have a slight size advantage of fewer than two inches at 5’9.5”, but his reach is half-an-inch shorter than that of his opponent Lopez’s 68.5” reach.

Just 24 years old, Lopez (16-0-0, 12 KO) claimed the lightweight division last October after earning a unanimous decision victory over Vasyl Lomachenko in Las Vegas. Just 10 months before that, Lopez had earned his first major world title, the IBF World Lightweight, with a TKO of Richard Commey at Madison Square Garden. Born in Brooklyn, Lopez has practically established a second home in The Garden, where he’s won six fights.

With two knockout boxers, it won’t be surprising if Saturday night’s fight ends in fireworks. Per DraftKings Sportsbook on Saturday morning, Lopez was favored -250 to win by KO, TKO, or disqualification. Kambosos, on the other hand, was +1000 to be victorious by any of those three methods.
