Vedran Ćorluka, a former player for Lokomotiv Moscow and the Croatian national football team, recently revealed that he was on the verge of joining Spartak Moscow back in 2016. Following his strong performance at Euro 2016, Spartak had made an offer to sign him, along with other clubs. However, Lokomotiv underwent a change in management at that time and convinced Ćorluka to stay. In a recent interview with Championship.com, he shared that Lokomotiv had told him they would not allow him to leave.
Ćorluka had joined Lokomotiv in 2012 from Tottenham Hotspur and won the Russian championship with the team, as well as the country’s cup four times. He announced his retirement from football at the end of the 2020/2021 season.
As for Lokomotiv, they are currently ranked 14th in the Russian Championship standings after the first half of the season. They have won three games, drawn three times, and suffered 11 defeats, resulting in 13 points. In other news, commentator Gennady Orlov criticized Zenit St. Petersburg for their recent 0-2 loss to Sepahan in a friendly match played in Iran, suggesting that the team had underestimated their opponents.
