GitHub cut engineering team in India

GitHub, a famous developer platform, has laid off almost its entire engineering team in India in an unusual move as the Microsoft-owned company cuts costs amid slowing global market conditions.

Developers have cut more than 100 jobs in the South Asian market, said a person familiar with the matter. GitHub notified employees of the layoffs on Tuesday. Gergely Oros, a former software engineer who runs the popular Pragmatic Engineers newsletter, was the first to report the discharges.

The layoffs are likely part of a broader downsizing effort that GitHub announced last month. GitHub said it would cut around 10% of its workforce in the March quarter.
Microsoft declined to comment.

India is one of the largest markets for developers and a significant engineering center for many large companies.
