The new dating app from Facebook – Sparked

The social giant launches a new dating app in an experimental version. More secure and inclusive, Sparked is based on video chat speed dates

Sparked is the name of the new dating app by Facebook, the evolution of online and more inclusive speed date.
Yes, the social giant, which launched Facebook Dating in Italy last autumn , has already started another project, always related to online dating.
The name, Sparked , for now corresponds to an app (for now only on the browser, and therefore not on iOS or Android) released by the NPE (New Product Experimentation) team, the one in charge of creating experimental projects.

Sparked, the online speed date

According to reports, Sparked is a speed-dating app based on video calls. The principle of Sparked is to put two strangers in contact but in safety (both from pandemic and general), then in video call. Basically, the speed date takes place in videochat.
Sparked, in fact, requires each user to participate in a series of “quick appointments” in video chat . Quick or, better, very quick, since they have a fixed duration of four minutes . This time interval should be enough to understand if the spark can arise or eliminate the potential match.

If the first date went well for both of them, users move on to a second appointment, this time for 10 minutes . After that, the potential couple can continue the acquaintance via email or other social networks.

Sparked, how it works

Forget the profile, direct messaging, scrolling profiles like other dating apps. According to the American press ( The Verge ), which was able to experiment with Sparked, it is enough to have a Facebook profile, through which registration takes place. Do not worry about personal data: the user will be able to allow the sharing of personal information with others only at the end of the second appointment, not before.
When registering, users must explain what makes them trustworthy candidates, as the app makes it clear that applications will be reviewed by humans on Sparked’s behalf.

The Verge also discovered the existence of a page that anticipates an event in Chicago that seems to have 47 people registered. What still remains unclear is how users can connect to the event, whether via Sparked via the web or if they will eventually be prompted to download some application or widget. After all, Sparked is still in the running-in phase.

Kindness & inclusiveness

The only rule on Sparked, it seems, is that of kindness , which is also insisted on in the registration phases. To participate in video chat speed dates, you need to answer a few questions, enter a waiting list and wait to be approved.

As we said, Sparked is still in the running-in phase, so much so that in Italy the site is still inaccessible. On the other hand, according to the first American reviews, the new Facebook dating app is in step with the times in terms of inclusiveness and users can sign up as men, women, non-binary people, transsexuals, etc.
