Are you a teenager struggling with the pain of a breakup? Do you need support to move on from a broken relationship? If yes, then Love Better is here to help you.

Launched by the New Zealand government, Love Better is a new campaign aimed at assisting teenagers in coping with the emotional turmoil that comes with breakups. The campaign focuses on providing a platform for young people to talk about their experiences, feelings, and emotions with professionals, through videos, articles, and podcasts.

The Love Better community comprises of freshly broken-up teens helping each other to minimize the pain of breakups and bad relationships. The campaign acknowledges that breakups can be a difficult and painful experience, but encourages young people to discuss their experiences of being dumped as a healthy practice to process their feelings.

One of the innovative approaches used in this campaign is the use of real footage of young people discussing how they deal with breakups, rather than staged or scripted enactments. The campaign also incorporates content from other social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

Love Better is a unique initiative that offers teenagers a safe and supportive environment to express their emotions and get the help they need to move on from breakups. So, if you’re a teenager struggling with the pain of a breakup, remember that you’re not alone. Join the Love Better community today and get the support you need to love better and move on.

Biden hints at 2024 run during White House ceremony

0

On Tuesday, President Joe Biden honored nearly two dozen individuals and groups during a White House ceremony, including Bruce Springsteen, Gladys Knight, and Julia Louis Dreyfus. He awarded medals to these honorees, praising their work for deepening the country’s “understanding of the humanities and broadening our citizen’s engagement with history, literature, philosophy, and so many other subjects.”

During the ceremony, Biden made a reference to a potential 2024 campaign while introducing author Colson Whitehead, who won two Pulitzer prizes for his consecutive novels “The Underground Railroad” and “The Nickel Boys.” Biden quipped, “How in the hell did you do that? Pretty good man. I’m kinda looking for back-to-back myself,” prompting a loud applause.

Biden has repeatedly said his intention is to run for reelection, but he has yet to make any formal announcement. The ceremony also included Biden’s praise for rock music icon Bruce Springsteen, joking that “some people are born to run.”

“Bruce Springsteen, a poet troubadour, chronicler of American life and resilience and hope and dreams, recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, along with 20 Grammys, an Oscar, a Tony, and an unyielding love from millions of fans across generations,” Biden said.

Biden introduced Dreyfus as “President Julia Louis Dreyfus” for her role as Selina Meyer in the hit HBO sitcom “Veep.”

“I’m gonna talk to Julia later whether she liked being VP or president better,” he joked. “I got to figure that one out.”

During the White House ceremony honoring American legends, President Biden recognized each honoree and highlighted their accomplishments in their respective fields.

Notable recipients included Gladys Knight, Mindy Kaling, Vera Wang, Bryan Stevenson, and writers such as Ann Patchet, Amy Tan, Walter Isaacson, and Tara Westover. Biden described Knight as the “Empress of Soul” and praised her contributions to music.

The President also made a playful remark about Kaling’s roots in Scranton, Pennsylvania, referencing her work on “The Office.”

Biden awards arts medals for the first time since taking office amidst COVID-19 pause; previously awarded Elton John with National Humanities Medal during White House concert last fall.

“You do make the country better, make it a better place,” Biden said to the 2021 awardees as the event came to a close.

Nearly 420,000 students affected by Los Angeles teachers’ strike

0

On Tuesday, the teachers’ union in Los Angeles initiated a three-day strike, resulting in approximately 30,000 teachers going on strike.

The second-largest school district in the United States was forced to cancel classes for nearly 500,000 students.

The Service Employees International Union Local 99 is demanding an increase in the poverty wages of its members, which include school bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria workers, and classroom assistants, with an average salary of $25,000 per year.

The strikes have impacted over 420,000 students, many of whom rely on schools for meals, counseling, and other social services.

On Tuesday, the district stated that numerous school district employees and volunteers provided more than 124,000 meals to these students.

Protestors, including teachers and supporters, congregated outside the Los Angeles Unified School District headquarters for a rally under the banner “United for LA Schools.”

“This school system is inadequately funded,” stated Findlay Bunting, a special education teacher.

“As educators, we work closely with support staff, who are remarkable. However, they have been underpaid for years.”

The striking workers have the support of at least 35,000 members of the United Teachers Los Angeles union.

Several regions of the United States are grappling with a shortage of teachers, as educators continue to protest against low wages and burnout.

LA schools superintendent, Alberto Carvalho, acknowledges that the workers are not receiving adequate pay.

The union is requesting a 30 percent salary increase and an additional $2 per hour for the lowest-paid workers, as per the Los Angeles Times.

On Monday, Carvalho informed reporters that the district was proposing a 23 percent raise plus a three percent bonus, with additional resources still on the table.

According to a survey by the National Education Association last year, 55 percent of educators were contemplating leaving the profession due to burnout and low pay.

Since the onset of the pandemic, at least 86 percent of respondents reported that many of their colleagues have already quit.

Taiwan’s President to make unofficial stops in US during visit

Taiwan's President to make unofficial stops in US during visit

Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen will be visiting two of her Central American allies, Guatemala and Belize, but with unofficial stops in the US. This move has sparked concerns about escalating tensions with China, as the US administration under President Joe Biden seeks to emphasize the “personal” nature of the stops.

According to the National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby, these stops are called “transits,” and are not uncommon, with President Tsai having done it six times before. Kirby dismissed the notion that the US administration was trying to diminish the significance of any visits, stating that it was merely a matter of being factual.

The US maintains diplomatic ties with China, which considers Taiwan part of its territory. China is known for opposing state-to-state relations between Taiwan and other nations, and just recently, Honduras indicated that it would likely cut its diplomatic ties with Taiwan and establish a relationship with China.

Taiwan would be left with only 13 official diplomatic allies if this happens. In the meantime, the US administration is taking measures to ensure that Taiwan’s unofficial stops in the US are perceived as personal visits and not diplomatic overtures.

Despite this, the US has faced criticism from China for maintaining unofficial relations with Taiwan, such as the sale of military weapons and equipment. On Tuesday, China’s Foreign Ministry denounced President Tsai’s upcoming visit, cautioning against any contact between the US and Taiwan governments.

Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Ministry, stated that “We once again caution the Taiwan authorities that there is no possibility of achieving independence for Taiwan, and any aspirations to collude with external forces for independence or to provoke are doomed to fail.”

He also criticized Germany for its education minister’s recent trip to Taiwan, characterizing it as a display of “disgusting behavior.” Germany, like the US, does not maintain official relations with Taiwan and denied allegations that the visit breached the “One China” policy.

To alleviate diplomatic tensions, the Biden administration stressed on Tuesday that President Tsai’s visit to the US would be “informal” and consistent with standard protocol.

Kirby addressed reporters, stating that “There is no need for China to respond in an exaggerated manner. In fact, there is no need for them to respond at all. This is a routine matter, as I have mentioned.”

However, reports of President Tsai’s layovers in the US have fueled speculation that she may have plans to meet with Kevin McCarthy, the top Republican in the US House of Representatives.

McCarthy had been rumored to be considering a trip to Taiwan, similar to the one taken by former Speaker of the House, Democrat Nancy Pelosi. Her brief visit last August, along with five other Democratic Party members, made her the highest-ranking US official to visit Taiwan since 1997.

However, China was outraged and conducted military exercises around the island, including missile drops near its shores.

President Tsai’s visit to the US may offer an alternative to Kevin McCarthy, who was considering a potentially controversial trip to Taiwan.

When asked about the possibility of a meeting between the two leaders, Taiwan’s Vice Foreign Minister Alexander Yui declined to confirm any plans, stating that specifics would be disclosed at a later time.

According to Tsai’s spokesperson, Lin Yu-chan, she will arrive in New York on March 30 en route to Central America. She is also expected to pass through Los Angeles on April 5, which happens to be McCarthy’s home state in California.

Inflation in surprise jump to 10.4% in February

0

The cost of living rose unexpectedly last month after slowing for three straight months, led by eating out and rising grocery prices.

Inflation, which measures the increase in the price of something over time, rose to 10.4% through February from 10.1% in January.

Grocery costs are increasing at the fastest rate in 45 years, especially for some salads and vegetables.

The price increase occurred after a shortage was identified in supermarkets.

Tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers are among some of the vegetables that are in short supply, largely because of the extreme weather conditions that are affecting crops in Spain and North Africa.

The bottleneck is also exacerbated by high energy prices affecting UK manufacturers and supply chain issues.

Alcohol prices in pubs and restaurants also fueled inflation last month after falling in January, said the Office for National Statistics, which released the results.

Grant Fitzner, the chief economist at the ONS, said higher food prices for February were “not that surprising” but added, “what people didn’t expect was, firstly, in February, we saw an increase in alcohol prices in pubs and restaurants after certain discounts.”

“We are also seeing higher prices for clothing, particularly children’s and women’s clothing,” he added.

The surprise spike in inflation comes ahead of the Bank of England’s decision on whether to raise interest rates as it continues to battle inflation.

Most economists expect inflation to ease again in February, but Chancellor Jeremy Hunt says a slowdown is not “inevitable.”

“We recognize how difficult it is for families across the country, and as we work to fight inflation, we will be helping families this year with an average of ยฃ3,300 in living expenses per household.”

Reading used their little luck against Hull City to pick up a point at the Select Car Leading Stadium

0

The hosts lost Liam Moore and Tom McIntyre to injury at both ends, with Regan Slater opening the scoring for Hull.

A goal from former England striker Andy Carroll just before half-time put Reading back in the game but neither side could find a winner in the second half.

Both sides have nothing to play for this season, with the Royals nine points above the relegation zone and Hull two above them.

Hull, looking buoyed by their midweek display against leaders Burnley despite the loss, put their early runs to good use, with Malcolm Ebiowei and Alayar Sayadmanesh blocked within the first 10 minutes.

Reading’s response was a break and a pass from Lucas Joao, which was blocked by Carroll and Cesare Cassaday. Joao then saved Andy Yadom’s header from Joe Lumley.

The Royals were forced into an early substitution when Moore left after just 15 minutes with a hamstring problem and was replaced by Scott Dann.

The hosts were then forced into a second substitution five minutes from the break when McIntyre was replaced by Nesta Guinness-Walker.

Reading was already behind when McIntyre came on, while Slater tapped in a perfect through ball from Adama Traore and quickly turned past Lumley.

But their luck changed a minute before half-time when Cassaday’s header bounced off two defenders and fell into the hands of former Liverpool and Newcastle player Carroll, who slotted the ball into the corner to equalize.

Reading’s resurgence continued early in the second half with plenty of possession, but they struggled to create clear chances.

Hull had their chance after the hour when skipper Louis Coyle overlapped and slotted in a dangerous cross, only for Dunn to clear Reading’s line.

Ebiowei also had a chance for the visitors but hit the bar after slipping away from three Royals defenders.

The goalkeeper wasn’t too worried for the rest of the game as Reading’s streak of four straight defeats ended.

Reading manager Paul Ince told BBC Radio Berkshire:

“Right now, it’s not about playing good football but about scoring points. We conceded a goal – sloppy play to realize at the near post. But the response was incredible – especially on the right – we caused many problems.

“And we scored at the right time. In the first half, we said, ‘Listen, guys, we just have to keep going – it’s going to be a tough second half.’

โ€œThe players were completely exhausted, especially after our four tough games against the top four. And this is what it looked like for the last five minutes.”

Ukraine receives the first IMF loan for a country at war

0

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has announced that it has reached a US$15.6 billion (ยฃ12.8 billion) financing agreement with Ukraine.

The organization’s first loan to a belligerent nation is expected to be approved in the coming weeks.

It would also be one of the most extensive financial packages Ukraine has received since invading Russia.

The IMF recently changed the rules to allow loans to countries facing “very high levels of uncertainty.”

“Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues to have a devastating impact on the economy: activity will fall by 30 percent in 2022, much capital will be destroyed, and poverty levels will increase,” IMF official Gavin Gray said in a statement.

“The program was designed under very high uncertainty, in line with the new lending fund policy, and strong funding guarantees are expected from donors, including the G7 and the European Union.”

Without elaborating, Mr. Gray also said the deal would mobilize “large-scale concessional funding” for Ukraine from international donors and partners. The funding has yet to be approved by the IMF’s Executive Board.

The IMF expects Ukraine’s economy to shrink or grow slightly this year.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmykhal said the funding would help the country “finance all important expenses, ensure macroeconomic stability and strengthen our interactions with other international partners.”

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, who visited Ukraine last month, said: “An ambitious and timely IMF program is critical to supporting Ukraine’s reform efforts.”

The US is the largest shareholder in the IMF and the largest donor to Ukraine regarding funds spent.

Earlier this year, President Joe Biden announced nearly half a billion more dollars in US military aid to Ukraine. That’s on top of the $112 billion Congress spent in 2022 alone.

Military aid, which accounts for over half of US spending on Ukraine, funds drones, tanks, missiles, and other munitions systems, training, logistics, and intelligence support.

Money has continued to flow into the conflict from around the world since Russia invaded Ukraine last February.

The IMF said its Executive Board had approved rule changes last week to allow funding for countries facing “very high levels of uncertainty.”

Without naming Ukraine, the measure applies to countries experiencing “exogenous shocks beyond the control of state authorities and the reach of its economic policies.”

How to Create Drop-Down Lists in Excel 2023: Step-by-Step Guide

0

Maintaining organization is vital for achieving success, whether you’re managing a business or running a household. With the multitude of apps and websites available for organization, I have experimented with several, but I always revert to the reliable Microsoft Excel.

Microsoft Excel is more than just a program that was popular with your parents in their office jobs. It can be a powerful tool in your toolkit, providing benefits to business owners, professionals, individuals who want to manage their household finances or schedule, or anyone who requires a budget.

A useful technique for streamlining data entry within Excel is to employ drop-down lists, which saves time and money.

1. How to easily add drop-down lists in Excel

To implement drop-down lists for the Communication Preference column in this example spreadsheet, identify the cells in which the lists are required. These cells correspond to the Comm Preference column on the right of the spreadsheet, alongside the list of clients on the left. By selecting these cells, you can add the drop-down lists that allow the user to choose their preferred method of communication, whether it be email, phone, or text.

2. Select Data Validation

A Data Validation popup will appear after you click on Data Validation.

3. Select List

In the Data Validation popup, go to the drop-down menu under Allow and select List.

4. Enter the values for your drop-down list

In order to specify the options that will be available for selection in your drop-down list, input the desired values into the “Source” field of the popup window. Each option should be separated by a comma with no additional characters in between.

5. Click “OK” to save your drop-down lists

After inputting the desired values into the “Source” field, click on the “OK” button to save your drop-down lists. This action will finalize the creation of the drop-down lists, which will now be available for immediate use within your Excel spreadsheet.

Once the drop-down lists have been created, simply click on the corresponding cell, and a small drop-down arrow will appear in the lower-right corner. Click on the arrow to reveal the list of options available for selection. Upon selecting an item from the list, it will be automatically populated into the cell.

Tekashi 6ix9ine Hospitalized After Attack at Florida Gym

0

Tekashi 6ix9ine was hospitalized after being attacked by a group of assailants in a South Florida gym bathroom on Tuesday, Variety confirmed.

According to his lawyer Lance Lazaro, the 26-year-old rapper, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, suffered facial cuts and bruises.

Lazaro said the rapper was assaulted in and out of the LA Fitness sauna by three or four men who beat him despite his efforts to fight back. “He had cuts on his face and bruises,” said Lazaro. Lawyers said the assailants fled after officers heard the disturbance.

According to Lazaro, the South Florida State Police were called, and Hernandez was taken to a local hospital by ambulance. It is currently unclear whether the rapper remains in the hospital.

Lazaro told TMZ he wanted to ensure Hernandez had protection since his release from federal prison in April 2020. Hernandez was arrested and sentenced to two years in prison in 2019 on nine counts, including racketeering, drug trafficking, and firearms offenses, for his involvement in the Nine Trey Bloods gang. Hernandez received a reduced sentence after colluding with federal officials to jail his associates. He was released early amid concerns about COVID-19 after a judge labeled the rapper a “model prisoner.”

In a video leaked to Twitter, one of Hernandez’s attackers can be heard saying, “Take a picture. Now I’m going to be famous.” Another video shows a bloodied Hernandez walking out of the gym.

New Study Suggests Life on Earth Could Have Originated from Space

0

New evidence has emerged supporting the theory that the building blocks of life on Earth were deposited by comets and asteroids millions of years ago. According to a recent study published in the journal Nature Communications, scientists have discovered essential amino acids, including uracil, in samples collected from the near-Earth asteroid Ryugu by the Japanese-led space mission Hayabusa2. RNA, a crucial molecule present in all living cells, relies on these building blocks to function and create proteins.

The Hayabusa2 mission, which was supported by various international space agencies, including NASA and the Australian Space Agency, collected samples from two sites on Ryugu that had remained untouched since formation. The pristine extraterrestrial material allowed researchers to analyze the asteroid’s composition without contamination from Earth’s atmosphere and biosphere.

The study provides further evidence that organic molecules can survive on the surface of asteroids and be transported throughout the Solar System. The discovery of amino acids on Ryugu supports the theory that the ingredients for life on Earth may have originated from outer space.

This latest study highlights the importance of space exploration and the valuable insights it can provide into the origins of life. As scientists continue to study the universe, we may uncover more clues about our origins and the potential for life beyond Earth.
