If we are more familiar with carbon from racing or the automotive industry, the Berlin technology company Carbon Mobile is now also using the material in its mobile devices. The new innovative smartphone is equipped with a six-inch AMOLED display and weighs only 125 grams – thanks to the carbon fibers. At 6.3 millimeters, it is also remarkably slim.

The Carbon 1 MK II is delivered with the Android 10 operating system as standard – an upgrade to Android 11 will also take place soon. Inside is a MediaTek Helio P90 processor with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. The thin carbon phone also has a dual camera with 16 megapixels on the back and a selfie camera with 20 megapixels.

Firas Khalifeh, CEO of Carbon Mobile said, “It has been an immense effort by a small but dedicated team to come together to challenge an industry that is stagnating in terms of material innovation.” The last twelve months have been a great challenge for the company, as the last test and production phases have been interrupted by the pandemic. “We used this time to perfect our HyRECM technology and to advance design decisions that were intended for the next device.”
