At less than 1000 euros, the new OnePlus 9 Pro will hurt the iPhone 12 and Samsung Galaxy S21

OnePlus hits a big blow in the smartphone market with the OnePlus 9 Pro, a model with a 6.7-inch screen boosted by high-end photo sensors.

For its new OnePlus 9, the Chinese brand has chosen to do like Huawei with Leica : ally with a major photo brand to offer users the best images and video, Hasselblad. The Swedish brand is known for having put its devices in the hands of NASA astronauts, especially in 1969 during the Apollo 11 mission which took a certain Neil Armstrong to walk on the moon. Like Leica, we are at the top of the range. The Hasselblad partnership with OnePlus makes sense since the Chinese brand of smartphones, not ranked in Top 10 of the best global manufacturers (“best” in the sense that they make more sales), is a little behind in the field of photography and, at the same time, enjoys a pretty amazing community like in India especially, and France, too. At the time of the famous Colette store, at 213 rue Saint-Honoré in Paris, OnePlus fans lined up for hundreds of meters for the release of a new model. This will obviously no longer be possible today since Colette no longer exists and the coronavirus has changed the game of presentations and physical sales. It may be on Amazon , Darty or even Boulanger that OnePlus fans will order the new smartphone presented on March 23 and available on March 31: the OnePlus 9 Pro.

We voluntarily fix our (your) attention on the 9 Pro model rather than on the 9, also new and which will be available on April 26 in France, because it will be directly in competition with what is done best today: iPhone 12 Pro , Oppo Find X3 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra… With an undeniable advantage: it is the only one to drop below 1000 euros in terms of price. Oh, not by much since the OnePlus 9 Pro with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage capacity is at 999 euros. But it is, at least, 150 euros cheaper than the aforementioned competition. So it deserves a look.

The big information is therefore this photo / video collaboration with Hasselblad. But since the agreement between the two brands is recent, the four photo sensors on the back of the phone are still made by Sony. Hasselblad worked on the software and influenced the calibration and color grading “to bring more accurate and better colors.

natural to the photos taken with the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro ”, explains the phone manufacturer. Employees of the Swedish firm have collaborated with the OnePlus R&D cell while professional photographers have tested the camera on different lighting scenarios so that the colors are as faithful as possible to reality, even in strong light. In the photo application of the OnePlus 9, some will notice a notable change: the interface of Hasselblad devices is now in the seat. They will also find more improved photo options intended for professionals: Raw format, white balance, ISO sensitivity… So it’s not yet a 100% collaboration but OnePlus should be able to significantly improve its photo characteristics, an important or even essential element when buying a smartphone. Here is also the detail of the five photo sensors (four at the back, one at the front): 48 megapixel main sensor with f / 1.8 aperture, a 50 megapixel ultra wide angle with f / 2.2 aperture, a monochrome sensor 2 megapixel and 8 megapixel telephoto lens with f / 2.4 aperture, 16 megapixel front sensor with f / 2.4 aperture. As for the video, everyone will appreciate the 8K resolution at 30 frames per second. 16 megapixel front sensor with f / 2.4 aperture. For the rest of the technical sheet, the OnePlus 9 Pro is very high-end: a 6.7-inch QHD + resolution (525 ppi) OLED screen with adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, a 8 GB RAM for the 64 GB storage version and 12 GB for 256 GB of storage, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, facial recognition, digital recognition (under the screen) and a very beefy 4500 mAh battery. Warp technology is still present on the OnePlus 9 Pro, which allows “to go from 1 to 100% in just 29 minutes,” says the brand. Who has opted for a two-battery system which are recharged between them in order to keep a low voltage and not to damage them. In terms of autonomy, however, this does not have a real impact. The OnePlus 9 weighs 197 grams, runs Android 11 and will be available in three colors: Morning Mist (shiny silver, for the 8GB Ram / 64GB storage model) priced at 919 euros, Pine Green (matt pine green) and Stella Black (matte black) for models with 12 GB of Ram and 256 GB of storage at a price of 999 euros therefore.

It remains to be seen that the OnePlus 9 Pro lived up to what it displays and can hardly fight against the iPhone 12 Pro, the Galaxy S21 Ultra and the Oppo Find X3 Pro.
