Every year on March 21st, the world celebrates World Forestry Day, also known as the International Day of Forests. The purpose of this day is to raise global awareness about the significance of forests for the survival of all living beings.

Forests provide numerous benefits to our lives, such as food, air purification, resources, mitigation of climate change, poverty reduction, life-saving medicines, ecological balance, and more. Unfortunately, rampant deforestation, forest fires, droughts, pests, and other factors pose a serious threat to forests, which can have devastating consequences for both the environment and human prosperity.

World Forestry Day aims to educate people about the advantages of forests and to encourage them to take action to preserve them at the local, national, and international levels. Afforestation, or the planting of trees, is a major and simple way to preserve forests.

On the International Day of Forests, many national and international organizations hold Forest Saving Campaigns to educate people and encourage them to participate in tree planting drives. We should also take part in such events to protect future generations from potential environmental disasters resulting from the loss of forests.

WORLD FORESTRY DAY 2023: HISTORY AND SIGNIFICANCE

In 2012, the UN General Assembly declared March 21st as World Forestry Day to promote awareness about the preservation and protection of all types of forests for maintaining ecological balance.

The Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) chooses an annual theme for the International Day of Forests. The responsibility for organizing related events and campaigns lies with the United Nations Forum on Forests, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and other relevant organizations in the field.

World Forestry Day aims to provide education and awareness at all levels to ensure sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation. Healthy forests are crucial for building resilient communities and prosperous economies.
